The Morongo Tradition

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians is committed to providing quality life-long educational programs and opportunities for Tribal members and descendants to prepare them for success at the nation's top universities and in any arena of government, academic, professional and corporate life.

• Morongo School - The Tribe’s private college preparatory school is located on the Reservation. Morongo School opened its new site in September 2010, enrolling students through Grade 6 and expanding to include Grades 7 & 8 in 2011. Initial planning has been completed for Morongo “Upper” School (Grades 9-12) which would offer four Centers of Excellence (Center for Excellence in Communications, Center for Excellence in Environmental Studies, Center for Creative & Performing Arts, and Center for Excellence in Governance & Leadership) to Morongo students.

• Little Creators Preschool and Kindergarten - The very core of Little Creators' belief is that children are our greatest asset and natural resource. Morongo's children must be honored by ensuring they have the opportunity to learn the songs, stories and languages of the Morongo people. By providing an atmosphere that supports each child's physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative development, the Tribe fosters responsibility and community pride in its children.

• The Morongo Tutoring Program - Provides academic tutoring to all eligible Morongo students through grade 12 at The Morongo Learning Center (MLC).

• The Center for Advanced Studies (Alternative Education) - Provides independent study programs and career counseling to support Tribal Members and 1st Descendants seeking accredited studies leading to a diploma, certification, career, career change, or college degree of their choice. Opportunities in the Center for Advanced Studies may include on-site apprenticeship programs in Environmental Sciences, Fire-Fighting, Public Works, Information Technology and/or other careers both on and/or off the reservation.

• The Tribal Scholarship Program provides any Morongo Tribal Member with a college education. Morongo has students enrolled at colleges and universities around the country. For more information please contact Trisha Smith at (951) 572-6185.

The Morongo Resource Center - The Tribe established the Morongo Resource Center in the Mezzanine of the Administration Building (2nd floor) in the Spring of 2011. Through the Morongo resource center, Tribal Members may access the Tribe’s Special Collection of books and other digital and audio media and other artifacts to research, study, and broaden their knowledge of the Tribe’s History and Cultural heritage.
