Environmental Programs
Rangeland Management

Developing and following through with rangeland management activities benefit both the land being grazed and those doing the grazing.  Current activities underway include the removal of invasive, competitive species, maintaining water troughs and fences, reseeding with native grasses, and erosion control. The Resource Conservation Program will continue to work with other departments, organizations such as the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and especially Tribal Members to develop an integrated resource management plan that will sustain Tribal interests and Tribal resources.

Wildlife Management

The Resource Conservation Program assists with compliance issues concerning the Endangered Species Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. In addition to species of special concern, the Resource Conservation Program strives to conserve and enhance habitat for native wildlife while reducing their nuisance level to humans. The Bear Management Plan has been successful in reducing the availability of human trash and food to wild
bears so that they remain wild.
